On October 6th 2019, Cameron Crook, Hummel Park Caretaker was involved in a vehicle accident and left in critical condition, including possible permanent paralysis. His wife Brooklyn will have to quit her job to be a full time caretaker of not only him but their one year old daughter. The Park and Recreation department is hosting a Chili Cook Off at Benson Park Pavilion on November 8 from 11:30-2 PM. The chili will be $6 a bowl (includes a drink and dessert) and $3 for seconds. There will also be a raffle and a 50/50 drawing. All the money raised will be for Cameron and his family to help offset the large costs of healthcare and other medical expenses. Local 251 is also asking for items to be raffled off at the fundraiser. If you have items to donate please contact Kelcy at (402) 346-4011 or [email protected] Let’s all pull together ans show our support for the Crook family.

Local 251 is endorsing Local 251 member, Michael Champion, for the Civilian Pension Board. Michael is employed as a Housing Inspector for the Planning Department and has worked for the City of Omaha since June of 2018. His prior employment was with the City of Bellevue.
The Civilian Pension Board manages our pension system, reviews and approves disability applications and death benefits. We have the opportunity to put a Local 251 member on the board to ensure that our voice is heard. Michael is exceptionally qualified to serve on the Civilian Pension Board. From 2004-2010, Michael worked in the securities industry as a Registered Broker and Registered Investment Advisor. He has experience in investments, insurance, taxation, retirement and estate planning. The ballots will be mailed to your home on November 1st. You must return the ballot no later than November 26th. It is vital for all members to complete and return their ballot selecting Michael Champion. We need a voice on this committee to assure the workers are treated fairly. We feel it is important to have an actual Civilian Employee on the board, not just management, and Michael Champion is the person for the job.
