OUR HISTORY

Nebraska Public Employees was chartered on May 26th 1942 as the City of Omaha Employee’s Union, Local 25, American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees; and on the same date the Union was also chartered as the Nebraska Public Employees, Union Local 251 to represent all other municipal employees not covered by a Union charter. Today we represent employees from Dakota County, Douglas County Youth Center, Fremont City, Grand Island, Harlan, Nemaha County, North Platte, Omaha Housing Authority, Otoe County, Pawnee County, Sarpy County, South Sioux City, and Civilian Employees for The City of Omaha.

LOCAL 251 OFFICERS

TONY BURKHALTER
Tony has been the President of Nebraska Public Employees since September of 2018. Before serving as President, Tony was Vice President of Local 251. Tony previously worked as an Automotive Operator I in the Street Maintenance Department for the City of Omaha. Tony has been dedicated to the Union since the start of his career at the City of Omaha. Tony has been instrumental in pushing the City of Omaha for higher safety standards for the workers. He makes sure that every person that belongs to our Union is treated fairly. Tony is not afraid to stand up to management and hold them accountable for their actions. He is always fighting for what is right. Tony has successfully negotiated many different contracts. Through Tony’s leadership Local 251 has been steadily growing and the future has never looked better for Local 251.
