Yesterday morning a life altering accident occurred near 120th and Blondo involving a worker that was contracted with the City of Omaha for “Emergency Pothole Repairs”.  We send our thoughts and prayers to the injured worker and his family. 
Road worker safety is of the utmost importance to Local 251.  The men and women that work on our roads put their lives in danger every time they step out of their trucks. We hope the City of Omaha will conduct a thorough investigation to make sure all safety procedures were followed and if there is more  that can be done by the City of Omaha to ensure the safety of  all road workers in the future.  We ask everyone to say a prayer for this worker and his family. We are hopeful for a speedy and full recovery.

Some of our members have been impacted by the devastating floods and we want you to know that we are here to help. The Nebraska State AFL-CIO has put together information which outlines where affected members are turn to for assistance. The Nebraska State AFL-CIO is also asking members that have been affected by the flooding to fill out this form so resources can be directed towards you. The form will be available at Tuesdays meeting for any member that needs it.
At our meeting tomorrow we are accepting donations to assist with the clean up efforts. We are accepting paper towels, mops, cleaning rags, brooms, Clorax, shovels, Dawn dish soap, heavy duty garbage bags, buckets, rubber gloves, face masks, safety glasses, disposable body suits, boots etc. When you donate an item from the list you will receive a Local 251 T-Shirt. If you are unable to attend the meeting but would still like to donate please contact our office and we will make arrangements for members to drop off items or have them picked up.

This month at our March Union members meeting we are asking all members to attend and to bring items to donate to help the recent flood victims with their clean up efforts. Some of the people that have been affected by the devastating floods are some of our Union Brothers and Sisters. For everyone that brings a donation you will receive a Local 251 t-shirt! THE HUMAN RESOURCE DIRECTOR JUST CONTACTED LOCAL 251 AND HAS AGREED TO SIT DOWN WITH UNION OFFICIALS TO PUT TOGETHER A SURVEY THAT WILL GO OUT TO ALL STREET MAINTENANCE EMPLOYEES. THIS SURVEY WILL BE A WAY FOR PEOPLE TO ANONYMOUSLY VOICE THEIR COMPLAINTS. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT HAS CALLED AND EMAILED. YOU MADE THIS HAPPENAs some of you know there is an ongoing investigation into management of the Street Maintenance Department. We need all Street Maintenance employees whether you are a current employee, retired, or if you have transferred to another department to contact Tim Young, the Human Resources Director to discuss the issues you have had with management of the Street Maintenance Department. The discussions you have with Tim Young will not be held against you. The things you say to him will not be repeated to the Street Maintenance Department managers. This is our one and only opportunity to speak up about this. We cannot be scared or intimidated to speak up. If you want to see changes in the Management of Street Maintenance Department now is the time.

The Civilian Bargaining (Local 251) transfer period starts Monday, March 4 at 8:00 AM, and goes through 4:30 PM on Monday, March 18, 2019. The transfer request form is only available online. The online form enables employees to access the request form from anywhere at any time during the transfer period. Paper copies are not be accepted. If you have any questions please contact Human Resources on or before the March 18, 2019 deadline.The Human Resources Department does not have computers setup to accommodate walk-ins to submit the request form. 
-If you are an Environmental Inspector looking to transfer, please first speak with your supervisor to determine if it is a transfer and not a relocation. 

-Relocations for all civilian bargaining employees are also accepted only during this time. Relocations are not handled by Human Resources, rather they are completed through your supervisor or foreman. Please contact them for relocation information.
